Continuing Education Requirements

For each three-year license cycle, all active real estate brokers must complete 24 hours of continuing education.

Three-Year License Cycle Continuing Education Requirements:

  • Twelve (12) of the 24 hours must be comprised of three (3) different versions of the four hour (4) Annual Commission Update Course.
  • The remaining twelve (12) hours can be any combination of elective credit hours approved by the Commission.
  • You must retain proof of completion of continuing education courses for a minimum of four years and provide proof of completion upon the Commission’s request.

Inactive License Continuing Education Requirements

If your license has been inactive for longer than three (3) years/36 months, you MUST complete either:

  • The State portion of the Colorado Broker’s Exam, or
  • 48 Hours in Colorado Contracts & Regulations and 24 hours in Real Estate Closings (for a total of 72 hours).

Please Note: Licensees may renew online beginning 45 days prior to expiration.


Ethics Course Requirement for NAR Members.

NAR Ethics –

REALTORS® and Appraisers are required to complete ethics training of not less than 2 hours, 30 minutes of instructional time once every three years/ training cycle. See Cycles Here The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®.

Training may be completed through NAR’s online courses or through another method, such as online or classroom courses via local/state associations. Read the consequences for failing to complete Code of Ethics training.

Courses offered by 3rd-party providers designed for state CE credit may count towards your association of REALTORS® Code of Ethics Training Requirement, but NAR does not track such courses nor approve them. Individuals considering those courses should check with their local association of REALTORS® to ascertain whether any such course will count, as only local associations approve courses.
