The Bill Heldman/Stark King Scholarship started in 1985 and over the past 37 years the Aspen Board of REALTORS Heldman/King Scholarship Foundation has given out over $900,000 in scholarships to a wide variety of this valley’s talented, energetic, hard-working and deserving graduating seniors in hopes that they may possibly pursue a career, a vision or a dream that may not have been possible without this financial gift. The Students chosen, in one way or another, during the course of the application and interview process, not only impressed the committee with past achievements and future goals, but also displayed the spirit of the two men in whose memories this scholarship was founded – Bill Heldman and Stark King both were men of outstanding character and conviction especially in giving back and supporting the education of students in our valley.
In 2023 the Foundation awarded $65,000 to students from Aspen, Basalt and Roaring Fork High Schools. The committee receives between 80 and 110 applications each year, interviews between 30 and 60 students, and awards between $2,000 and $6,000 dollars to each qualified applicant depending on their financial need.
The Scholarship Committee strives each year to choose recipients who embody these same qualities – students who are very special and unique. Your contribution to the scholarship fund sparks new hope for students who didn’t necessarily win the highest academic honors at their local schools and who need the help financially. We pick the students whose lives may change when they receive this scholarship.
Applicant Qualifications: Applicants must be self motivated, have clearly defined future goals, and must have a financial need. Applicants should have an education plan best suited for their individualism. Special consideration will be given to those applicants who need the financial assistance as an incentive for higher education.
